FAQ’s
-
It’s good if you have an idea of which photo you would like drawn, but I am more than happy to advise you if you are unsure.
Whilst I obviously don’t know the subject of the photograph well enough to comment on their expressions etc., I can usually help you to choose a photo which will best translate into a good portrait.
If you can’t narrow your choice down to a few photos and need some help don’t worry about sending me a large number of photographs (providing we’re not talking thousands of photographs!). It’s better to have too many than too few.
-
When drawing a portrait of multiple people or animals, I can combine separate photos of the individuals into the same portrait, providing the lighting is vaguely similar.
Please keep in mind that for each subject in a portrait I use one main reference. Secondary references can be useful for filling in missing tips of ears etc. but I cannot, for instance, combine the hair in one photo, the eyes in another and the lighting of a third.
-
Yes. I cut my paper to size from large sheets so custom sizes are not a problem. If you would like a custom size, contact me and I will give you a quote.
-
The length of my waiting list varies depending on the time of year. It can be as short as a few weeks in less popular times, or sometimes upwards of six months as it gets towards Christmas.
-
This depends on the length of my waiting list as I arrange my bookings on a first come first served basis.
If time is a concern to you please let me know as soon as possible so that I can try to accommodate your time frame. Occasionally, I can fit in extra work if it is urgent, but I cannot guarantee this.
If you need the portrait for a specific date and I cannot meet this deadline, I recommend purchasing a gift voucher.
Vouchers come in an elegant gift box and make a wonderful present. The recipient can redeem the voucher for up to 12 months after purchase. -
I do not currently offer framing.
All of my drawings are archivally mounted in mounts which fit standard size frames. This enables you to buy an off-the-shelf frame or arrange your own framer. I provide more advice on this in the care guide which comes with each drawing.

Your portrait will come with a certificate of authenticity, a personal handwritten note from me and a care guide, containing the relevant handling and framing information.Protective Postal Packaging
All my artwork is packaged very securely with multiple layers of padding in a double walled box, and placed in a large bag for waterproofing.

-
Commissions are booked into my schedule with a 20% booking fee, with the remainder being paid on completion of the portrait.
For example, a £600 commission would have a £120 booking fee and the
final payment would be £495 (£480 payment + £15 shipping fee).
In the case of a voucher, the full price (£615) would be paid upfront on purchase of the voucher.Giclee prints are paid for at the time of ordering.
-
I currently accept all of my payments through Stripe invoices. This enables you to pay with credit/debit cards or by bank transfer.
I will not request payment from you in any other form than that which is described on my website.
-
I may choose to display a photograph of your commission drawing on my website or use it in my marketing and promotional materials.
If you are not happy with this please contact me before or after the commission and I will remove it where possible.
Whilst I do technically retain the rights to use this image, I am always willing to respect your wishes in this regard.
For portraits of animals I may use photos of your commission to create goods for sale (calenders, mugs, prints etc.) but I will never do this for commissioned portraits of people.
-
Absolutely not! I really enjoy drawing a wide range of animals as over the years I have adopted rabbits, guinea pigs and reptiles myself. Providing I feel that I can do your beloved pet justice with a portrait, all animals are welcome (scaly and feathered friends included)!
I have included a small selection of these portraits in my gallery to give you an idea of how they can look.
If you would like a portrait of this type please contact me for a quote as, owing to size and anatomy differences, pricing is figured out on a case-by-case basis. (It’s a little difficult to decide where the head and shoulders of a snake are!)
-
I like to keep the detail on clothing simple in order for the subject of the photo to be the main focus of the portrait. Please be aware that if you pick a top with your favourite pattern or slogan on it, I may not include this in the portrait.
-
At the present moment I only draw portraits of pets and head and shoulder portraits of people.
-
My portrait commissions are for personal use only.
